The concept derived from a desire to provide opportunities for people to restore their lives through culinary training and restaurant operations. Our consumers engage in an elegant and warm dining experience while supporting the social and economic restoration of our community.
I spent 33 years working for New York City and State government, building a career in upper management, capital project planning, and strategic leadership. But before that career—and even during it—I was fighting a very different battle. I am a former drug addict. I know what it’s like to be homeless, to feel invisible, and to wonder if it’s too late to start over. It’s not. I’m living proof.
With the unwavering support of my community, family, and faith, I rebuilt my life—earning four degrees, including a master’s in business administration and a culinary degree from the French Culinary Institute, where I completed professional training in Toulouse, France. I’m now proud to say I’m married to a fantastic husband and we’re raising an incredible eight-year-old son who inspires me every day to keep building something that matters.
That “something” is Featuring The Café—a mission-driven, community-centered space in the heart of Harlem. We serve seasonal, organic food sourced exclusively from women-owned, Black-owned, family-owned, and LGBTIA-owned businesses. Every cup of coffee and every ingredient represents economic equity and intentional community investment. But the café is just the beginning.
I also founded our nonprofit, Featuring The Center for Culinary Arts, with one clear mission: to provide social and economic food and hospitality services that stabilize and grow our community. We create training and employment opportunities for people navigating tough circumstances—whether they’ve been impacted by incarceration, poverty, or systems that too often forget human potential.
We equip them with real, transferable skills that open doors far beyond our kitchen. Featuring The Café is my life’s purpose—a second chance I now get to offer others. It’s a place where healing happens, careers begin, and hope is always on the menu.
Imagine a world where formerly incarcerated individuals are given a genuine opportunity, not just to survive, but to thrive in a fulfilling career that uplifts them, their families, and their communities. With your support we can bridge the gap between incarceration and meaningful employment through the power of food and community. This video was prepared by and with Communitas America, a non-profit dedicated to eliminating inequities around the world.

Arnyce is the Founder and Executive Chef of Featuring, The Center for Culinary Arts. After graduating from culinary school in 2007 she performed her externship in Toulouse, France. She has over three decades of working in management for NYC and NYS governments. She has managed multimillion-dollar personnel and expense budgets. Arnyce began her pursuit of entrepreneurship when she created a business model back in 2007 that inspired the non-profit Featuring, The Center for Culinary Arts. Featuring celebrates the culture and history of southern french cuisine inspired by New Orleans. The motivation for Featuring is derived from her life mission to help people who have challenges gaining employment to become independent and successful contributors in their communities by employment and providing high-level culinary and restaurant operations training.
